Michael Stevens (2014)

Michael David Stevens (born January 23, 1986 in Stillwell , Kansas ) is an American web video producer . He currently lives in Los Angeles . From there he produces videos on physiological , philosophical and scientific topics in a humorous style for his YouTube channel Vsauce .

education

Michael Stevens studied at the University of Chicago. There he earned both a bachelor's degree in neuropsychology and a bachelor's degree in English literature. In addition, he also attended theater courses at university, in which he learned the art of acting and directing. His psychology professor was a great influence on Michael Stevens, and he first found interest in the subject.

Most of his basic video editing skills are self-taught. The team at the YouTube channel Barely Political subsequently gave him additional tips on editing and posting videos on YouTube.

The information that he passes on to his audience in his videos is continuously acquired through online research, books and discussions with various experts. The sources that Michael Stevens uses for his videos, he usually checks with several materials or directly with experts. If he is made aware of errors after publication, they will be corrected immediately and the video republished with the improved version.

YouTube career

Michael Stevens made his first video in 2007 for a class at his college. The video is a horror parody of the trailer for the film Ferris makes blue . The idea of ​​the video comes from a parody trailer for the film Shining . After watching this video, Michael Stevens realized that YouTube videos can be used to create very interesting and thought-provoking work.

After his first successes on YouTube, Stevens created the “CamPain2008” channel in 2007. Here he created more humorous videos about various US politicians.

After Ben Relles heard about Stevens' videos from YouTube channel Barely Political , they invited him to work for the larger channel in New York City. He took this opportunity and moved to New York. At this YouTube company he created other humorous videos in which he also played for the first time.

Vsauce

Finally, he decided to part with Barely Political and re-create his own YouTube channel called Vsauce . On this channel, he initially promoted original humorous videos. With series like IMG and especially videos about video games, he slowly developed an audience. Over time, the videos evolved. Michael Stevens created more and more works that addressed philosophical and psychological topics in a humorous way.

In the end, he created a second channel with Vsauce2 at the end of 2010, which primarily continues to publish the original content of Vsauce. This channel was eventually taken over by Kevin Lieber.

In September 2012, another channel was created under the name Vsauce3 and maintained by Jake Roper. This mostly covers facts and fictional considerations about video games.
