Michael Stringer

John Michael Stringer (born July 26, 1924 in Singapore , † March 7, 2004 in Eastbourne ; Great Britain ) was a British film architect .

Life

Stringer served in the Royal Air Force until 1946 and immediately after his discharge from military service learned his artistic craft from the architect Norman Arnold. Initially (1947) he worked in film as a draftsman, later as an assistant set designer for films such as Chance of a Lifetime (1949) and The Galloping Major (1950). In 1952, Stringer made his debut as an independent film architect.

His heyday came in the late 50s and especially the 60s, when he designed the film structures for several historical and entertainment films, including Cassidy, the Rebel, The Shadow of the Giant , Alfred the Great - Vanquisher of the Vikings and costumes the agent film persiflage Casino Royale . During the 1970s, Stringer concentrated more and more on television work. In 1990 he retired into private life.
