Michael Theede
Michael Theede (born January 29, 1975 in Flensburg ) is a German concert pianist , culture and media manager and university professor .
Life
Theede was born in 1975 to a family of doctors in Flensburg. He received his pianistic training from the age of six. At the age of seven he also began to play the cello . In both instruments, Michael Theede, as a soloist and chamber musician, was a seven-time 1st state award winner and federal award winner at “ Jugend musiziert ”. In addition to classical music, he went on concert tours as a jazz pianist to the USA, Ukraine, England and Russia. As a teenager, he performed at international jazz festivals and on television.
In 1995 Theede began to study piano and chamber music with Manfred Fock , Sabine Meyer , Zakhar Bron and Angela Firkins at the Lübeck University of Music , which he finished in 2000 with "distinction". His diverse repertoire includes well-known baroque and classical-romantic works as well as rarely performed compositions of the late romantic and modern period, but also all other musical styles and genres of popular music that can be played on the piano, such as jazz and rock / pop. He took part in international master classes with Yara Bernette, Edith Picht-Axenfeld , Hans-Peter and Volker Stenzl, among others , and appeared on the one hand as a soloist in various concerts and on the other hand as a member of chamber music ensembles and as a duo partner of the American singer Deborah Sasson , the French violinist Geneviève Laurenceau and the Latvian clarinettist Uldis Lipski on. With the Japanese pianist Mizuki Takeuchi , he performed primarily works by Rachmaninoff as a piano duo . Concert tours have taken him to Europe, Asia, Africa, North, Central and South America.
In 1999, during his artistic studies at the Lübeck University of Music, he met the German-American flautist and future wife Christina Matthéi , where he founded the duo Matthéi Theede together with her. Since 2000 he has given concerts with the duo worldwide. One of the highlights was his debut at Preston Bradley Hall in Chicago (USA).
Theede studied culture and media management at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater and, as a scholarship holder of the European Union, at City University London . In 2007 he did his doctorate on “Management and Marketing of Concert Houses”. Michael Theede has been Deputy Director of the Institute for Cultural Innovation Research at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater since 2009. He is also a member of the Scientific Board of the International Association of Music Business Research and the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Music Business Research and is the organizer and moderator of concert events. Among other things, he was concert manager at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival , managing director of the cultural management network at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater and concept developer at Yamaha Music Central Europe GmbH. He is also the first chairman of the “new classical” association, on the boards of the Gunter and Juliane Ribke Foundation and the Gustav Mahler Association, as well as a member of the professional association for cultural management and the cultural-political society.
Since 2007 he has been a lecturer in culture and media management with a focus on music management at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater. He is a member of the examination board of the ICoM Masters of Performing Arts at the International College of Music Hamburg and guest lecturer for music management at national and international colleges and universities. Since 2013 he has been Professor of Music Management at the Macromedia University of Applied Science, Hamburg, where he heads the department of the same name.
