from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michael W. Gee (born May 20, 1971 in Hamburg ) is a German engineer and university professor . He is professor for mechanics on supercomputers at the Technical University of Munich .

biography

Gee graduated from the Georgii-Gymnasium in Esslingen am Neckar in 1990 and then did his community service in Stuttgart . From 1992 he studied civil engineering at the University of Stuttgart and graduated in 1999 as a graduate engineer . He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Structural Analysis at the University of Stuttgart. In 2004 he became a Dr.-Ing. With the subject of efficient solution strategies in nonlinear shell mechanics. doctorate, main reporter was Ekkehard Ramm . This was followed by a two-year postdoctoral stay at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque and Livermore, a research and development facility of the US Department of Energy for the development, manufacture and testing of non-nuclear components of nuclear weapons. In 2006, he moved to the Technical University of Munich as a group leader and post-doctoral candidate, and in 2011 was offered a position in the field of mechanics on high-performance computers in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering .

Research and Teaching

Gee conducts research in the field of method development in the numerical simulation of mechanical and physical phenomena. His focus is on algorithms and methods for solving non-linear structural and fluid mechanics problems, coupled problems such as fluid-structure interaction and algebraic multigrid methods. The latest research projects address inverse problems and the quantification of uncertainties in biomechanics. In an application-oriented way, Gee pursues various projects in the field of modeling and method development of image-based cardiovascular mechanics of the cardiovascular system as well as various applications in medical technology.

He teaches both in basic lectures and in specialized in-depth modules and has already received several teaching awards from the student representatives. To this end, he is actively involved in university politics in various committees and honorary posts.
