Career

More active

Wittwer began his professional career in 1987 in the Bundesliga with Karlsruher SC and remained loyal to the club for twelve seasons. He made his first Bundesliga appearance in the 3-2 home defeat against Bayer 04 Leverkusen on May 27, 1989. After playing only three league games in his first three years at Karlsruhe, he took the position of Libero from the 1990/91 season used more often and more regularly. On September 13, 1991, the 9th matchday of the 1991/92 season, he scored his first and only Bundesliga goal for Karlsruhe in a 2-1 win against FC Hansa Rostock . Under coach Winfried Schäfer , Wittwer was part of the most successful Karlsruhe team in the club's history and was able to regularly qualify for international competitions with the club between 1993 and 1998.In the 1993/94 season, the KSC reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup. Wittwer was also on the pitch for the Wunder vom Wildpark , the sensational 7-0 win against Valencia CF. In 1996 he reached the DFB Cup final with Karlsruhe.

Wittwer remained loyal to KSC even after the surprising relegation in 1997/98 to the second division, even if he only came to two second division appearances. From 1998 to 2000 he was still used for the second team of the KSC. The Libero played a total of 145 first division games (1 goal) and two games in the second division for KSC.

In the 2000/01 season Wittwer moved to FC Nöttingen in the association league and rose there in 2002 in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . In 2004 he was promoted to the Regionalliga Süd. He worked as a player coach in Nöttingen.

Trainer

For the 2005/06 season he switched to the amateurs of the KSC as an assistant coach. From April 5, 2007 to April 21, 2007 Michael Wittwer played again in the league team of FC Nöttingen to save it from the threat of relegation. However, he was only able to play four games due to an injury.

Wittwer looked after the U-18s of the Karlsruher SC in the 2009/10 season, and in the 2010/11 season he took over the coaching position of the upper division club FC Nöttingen, from which he resigned in April 2016. Wittwer continued to work for FC Nöttingen after his resignation. After the resignation of his successor Dubravko Kolinger after the 2017/2018 season, Wittwer took over the coaching position at FC Nöttingen again.
