Michael von Tschernigow
Mikhail of Chernigov and Mikhail Wsewoloditsch (Russian Михаил Всеволодович , Mikhail Vsevolodovich , Михаил Черниговский , Mikhail Chernigovskiy ; * 1185 ; † 20th September 1246 in Sarai ) today than in the Russian Orthodox Church Holy revered. His feast day is September 20th .
Life
He was the only known son of the later Grand Duke Vsevolod IV of Kiev and of Anastasia, a daughter of the Polish Duke Casimir II. From his father he received the Principality of Pereyaslavl in 1206 , which he had to give up under pressure from other princes from his family. Later he became Prince of Novhorod-Siverskyj (1219-1226), Prince of Chernigov (1223-1235, 1242-1246), Prince of Novgorod (1225-1226), Prince of Halitsch (1235-1236) and finally Grand Prince of Kiev ( 1236-1240, 1240, 1241-1243).
During the Mongol invasion in 1240 he opposed the siege of Kiev . Together with his boyar Feodor, he died a martyr in Sarai in Central Asia . The later Princely House of Obolenski can be traced back to his fifth son Juri .
