Michaela Eßl (born October 27, 1988 in Abtenau ) is an Austrian ski mountaineer .

Life

Sport accompanied Michaela Eßl, who grew up in Abtenau, from an early age. She was particularly fond of ski tours with her father Toni Eßl. Toni Eßl also successfully participated in numerous ski touring races. For fun she took part in ski mountaineering races in 2008 and immediately celebrated victories. This made those responsible in the Austrian association ( ASKIMO , Austrian Ski Mountaineering Organization) aware of her and brought her to the national team.

At the national level, Eßl won almost all well-known competitions in the following two years, including the Mountain Attack in Saalbach, the Achensee Xtreme and the Dachstein Xtreme. Internationally she showed with two European championship silver medals 2009 in the class "Espoirs" (under 23 years) that her potential is even higher. She confirmed this with the world championship title of "Espoirs" 2010 in Andorra, where she also won bronze in the vertical competition and in the relay. Thus she won the first world champion title in ski mountaineering for Austria.

In 2011 she was awarded the bronze lion at the Leonidas sports gala behind Andrea Fischbacher and Marlies Schild .

The international competition season 2012/1013 was very unsatisfactory for Eßl due to health problems, so she had to leave the World Championship in Pelvoux (France) without starting a race.

Eßl left the Austrian national team for the winter of 2013/2014. Instead of the World Cup competitions, she focused on starting classic long-distance races such as the Sella Ronda in Italy or the Patrouille des Glaciers in Switzerland.

In order to be able to work even more specifically on fitness, strength and technique, Michaela Eßl trained from 2010 to 2015 at the Olympic Center in Salzburg in Rif.

Michaela Eßl is a police officer at the Abtenau post. As a policewoman in the police ski touring team, she receives the additional vacation time necessary for the sport. Eßl became Federal Police Officer in 2011 on a racing bike, and in 2010 also on a mountain bike.
