Michaeliskloster Jena

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Michaeliskloster was a monastery of the Cistercians in Jena in Thuringia from 1301 to 1525 .

history

The Lords of Lobdeburg founded the nunnery Sankt Michael in Jena in 1301 , which was settled by the sisters of the Roda monastery . The well-equipped and at times important Cistercian convent came into crisis at the end of the 15th century and was dissolved in 1525. The monastery church of St. Michael , built by the nuns until 1475, has been back at Kirchplatz 1 since 1956. No remains of the monastery that adjoined the church to the north have survived.
