Michaelskirche in Sinsheim-Hilsbach

The Protestant Michaelskirche in Hilsbach , a district of the large district town of Sinsheim in the Rhein-Neckar district in northern Baden-Württemberg , dates back to a Gothic choir tower from the 13th century. After the collapse in 1667, the tower and nave were rebuilt in 1685. In the Michaelskirche there are several historical epitaphs from the 15th and 16th centuries. The church was a simultaneous church from 1705 until 1951 when the new Catholic Church of St. Mary was built .

location

The Michaelskirche stands less than a hundred meters west of the town hall in the old town center, surrounded by the road ring of the nearby Lauergasse and the somewhat more distant Lampertsgasse.

Bells

Until the late 19th century, the chimes of St. Michael's Church comprised two historical bells. The larger of the two had the strike tone G sharp ', a diameter of 110 cm and a weight of 727 kg. This bronze bell, cast around 1300, bore an inscription OSANNA SUM in Gothic capitals . VAS. EX. ERE. TRJA. NUNCJO. FUNERA. FLERE. FESTA. FREQUENTARE. TONITRUM. SOLEO + QUE. FUGARE. AVE. S MATEUS. S MARCUS. S LUCAS. S JOHANNES. REX. CUM. PACE. VEIN. LAUDAMJNE. DJGNJOR. OMNE + . The small bell was cast in Speyer in 1472 and weighed 516 kg. After the smaller bell broke in 1897, it was decided in Hilsbach to purchase a new triple bell at the Andreas Hamm Sohn foundry in Frankenthal. The old bells went to Hamm, but were not melted down there, but ended up in the Mannheim antiquity association . The bell from 1472 was returned from there by 1926, the older Hilsbach bell was placed in the middle part of the large corridor in Mannheim Palace and melted there in the Second World War.

On April 10, 1898, the three new bells were consecrated. The big bell had the strike tone f sharp 'and a weight of 615 kg. The middle bell had the strike note a ', a diameter of 85 cm and a weight of 335 kg. The small bell had the striking tone h '' and weighed 225 kg. Because the church was used as a simultaneous church, the ownership of the bells was divided. The big bell belonged to the Protestant community, the middle one to the political community and the smaller one to the Catholic community. The large and small bells had to be handed in for armament purposes during the First World War in 1917. To replace them, two new bells were cast at the Bachert bell foundry in Kochendorf ( Bad Friedrichshall ) in 1922 . The smaller one had the strike note c sharp '', a diameter of 70 cm and a weight of 223 kg, the larger one the strike note f sharp ', a diameter of 110 cm and weighed 811 kg. The smaller bell was again in the possession of the Catholic, the larger in the possession of the Protestant community. During the Second World War, the large and medium bells had to be delivered for armament purposes.

After the Second World War , the Catholic Marienkirche was built further east in the village . The remaining small bell went to it in 1950, while a new four-bell was cast for the Michaelskirche at Bachert in Bad Friedrichshall. One of the four new bells broke after a short time and was replaced by another bell in 1955.

The parish also owns a historic bell that was cast by Anselm Franz Speck in Heidelberg in 1767 and once hung in the roof turret of the Lutheran rectory in Hilsbach before it came to Limbach-Balsbach and served as the town hall bell for a long time before it finally Returned to Hilsbach in 2008.

Individual evidence

  1. Meinhold Lurz: Hilsbach , Sinsheim 1997, p. 197, erroneously states that the two larger bells had been delivered. Correction in Jung 2009, p. 32.
