Mannheim Antiquities Association
The Mannheimer Altertumsverein (full name Mannheimer Altertumsverein from 1859. Society of Friends of Mannheim and the former Electoral Palatinate ) is a German history society . It was founded on April 2, 1859 in Mannheim . Its purpose is to research the history of Mannheim and the Electoral Palatinate .
In connection with archaeological excavation and collection activities, also jokingly called Academia subterranea Palatina (i.e. the Underground Palatinate Academy ), the association soon set up an antiquity museum, which was initially housed in the city's fruit warehouse before the collection reached the Mannheim Palace . The association has published the Mannheimer Geschichtsblätter magazine since 1900, and the Mannheimer Hefte magazine since 1952 .
