Hansjörg Probst

Hansjörg Probst (born May 10, 1932 in Mannheim ; † December 1, 2016 ) was a German historian, politician and educator.

Life

Hansjörg Probst studied history, German and classical philology at the University of Heidelberg . He became a grammar school teacher and was director of the Karl Friedrich grammar school in Mannheim from 1974 until his retirement in 1996 . From 1982 to 2007 he was chairman of the Mannheim Antiquities Association , of which he was an honorary member. He published numerous publications on the history of Mannheim and the surrounding area.

Probst was a member of the Mannheim list and was a member of the Mannheim-Seckenheim district council for 25 years. He was the initiator of the 1986 referendum to rebuild the old department store . In 1991 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of Lord Mayor of Mannheim against the incumbent Gerhard Widder , supported by the CDU, FDP and Mannheimer Liste .

In 2000 he received the Bloomaulorden , in 2009 the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
