Mikhail Vladimirovich Alpatov
Michail Wladimirowitsch Alpatow ( Russian Михаил Владимирович Алпатов ; * December 10, 1902 in Moscow ; † May 9, 1986 ibid) was a Russian art historian .
Life
Alpatov was born in Moscow on December 10, 1902 . He studied art history at Moscow University and, after completing his studies, taught his subject at various art colleges, including the Frankfurt Städelschule . He was a long-time director at the Institute for Theory and History of Art of the Academy of Arts of the USSR .
Alpatow dealt primarily with the Old Russian and Western European art. The main focus of his art-historical work was precise interpretations of individual works of art and intensive preoccupation with individual artist personalities.
