Mikhail Nikolajewitsch Wolkonski ( Russian : Михаил Николаевич Волконский; born May 7, 1860 in Saint Petersburg , † October 13, 1917 in Petrograd ) was a Russian prince, writer , prose writer and playwright . He was an active member of monarchist organizations.

Life

Mikhail Nikolayevich Wolkonski studied 1882 jurisprudence . He then took on an administrative position in the main administration for horse breeding and later moved to the Ministry of Education . After his first literary successes, he gave up the civil service career and devoted himself exclusively to literature and writing . From 1892 to 1894 he was editor of the weekly paper Niwa. From 1904 to 1906 he was a member of the “Russian Assembly”, a political grouping of monarchists. In October 1906 he was a delegate to the 3rd All-Russian People's Congress in Kiev and represented the Saint Petersburg Union of Russian Workers. In 1909 he took part in the meeting of the monarchists as chairman of the Saint Petersburg League of the Russian People . After the federal split, he joined a new monarchist organization with several artists.

Origin and family

Knes MN Volkonsky came from the old Russian princely family of the Volkonskis . He is the son of Prince Nikolai Michailowitsch Wolkonski (* 1823) and Olga Wolkonskaja (* 1838). Michail was married to Maria Wassilewna Volkonskaja (1860-1940), they had three daughters: Anastasia (* 1885 in Saint Petersburg), Katharina (* 1887 in Saint Petersburg) and Maria (* 1888 in Saint Petersburg).

Works

His works include 19 prose poems , the libretto for the opera “Wampuka, Princess of Africa” and the drama “Tour of Rytschalow” in two acts.
