Mikhail Sergeyevich Solomenzew

Mikhail Solomentsev ( Russian Михаил Сергеевич Соломенцев , born October 25, jul. / 7. November  1913 greg. Near Yelets ; † 15. February 2008 ) was a Soviet politician and from 1971 to 1983 Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Russian SFSR (RSFSR) .

Life

From 1960 to 1966, Solomenzew was First Area Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) in Rostov-on-Don . From 1966 to 1971 he was secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU in Moscow. From 1971 to 1983 he took on the role of Chairman of the Council of Ministers ( Prime Minister ) of the RSFSR (successor Vitaly Worotnikow ).

From 1979 he was a candidate for the Politburo , and after his appointment as chairman of the Party Control Commission (1983–1988; successor Boris Karlowitsch Pugo ) he rose - already 70 years old - to a full member of the highest political body of the USSR, the Politburo of the Communist Party Soviet Union , from December 26, 1983 to September 30, 1988. Solomenzew initially supported Mikhail Gorbachev's reforms , but from mid-1988 he criticized some developments that had occurred. In 1988 he retired at the age of 75.

Honors

Solomentsev received the Order of Heroes of Socialist Labor twice, the Order of Lenin five times and the Order of the Red Banner of Labor twice .
