Mikhail Wiktorowitsch Kokljajew ( Russian Михаил Викторович Кокляев ; born December 17, 1978 in Chelyabinsk , Soviet Union ) is a Russian strongman and weightlifter .
Athletic career
Kokljajew began his career in weight training as a weightlifter. He had his first international assignment in 1997 at the Junior World Championships in Cape Town , where he achieved a duel performance of 340.0 kg (160.0 / 180.0 kg) in the super heavyweight over 108 kg and took 5th place. A year later he was used again at the Junior World Championships in Sofia and was able to achieve 4th place in the new class over 105 kg with a duel result of 382.5 kg (175.0 / 207.5 kg).
After Kokljajew had to start in the active area, he was only used again at the 2002 European Championships in Antalya , where he failed three times due to the strong Russian super heavyweight squad, especially Tschemerkin , Mechtcheriakow and Flerko , where he failed three times due to his initial load of 190.0 kg after that no longer started to push. Kokljajew had his last international appearance at the 2004 European Championships in Kiev . Here he was only able to bring in his two initial attempts, thus achieving 420.0 kg (190.0 / 230.0 kg) in a duel and finishing in 5th place. The winner was Cholakov with 445.0 kg.
After this European Championship, Kokljajew was no longer nominated for international championships, although he regularly achieved very good results at the Russian championships. In 2007, for example, he was first in the super heavyweight division with an output of 450.0 kg (210.0 / 240.0 kg). However, he was not considered for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, possibly because of his high failure rate in previous international competitions.
From 2005 Kokljajew took part in strongman events and since then has earned his living with it full-time. In September 2010, however, he announced to want to return to Olympic weightlifting. Kokljajew started in Belarus in November of the same year and achieved 430.0 kg (200.0 / 230.0 kg) in the super heavyweight over 105 kg. On his second attempt at a 240.0 kg shock, he tore his hand open and ended the competition. Participation in this tournament confirmed the speculation about Kokljajew's eventual move to Belarus. Alexander Goncharov, the national coach of Belarus, has since denied this.
