Mikheil Bilanischwili (Georgian მიხეილ ბილანიშვილი) (* 1901 , † 8. March 1934 in Paris ) was a Georgian painter of Cubism .

Live and act

Born as the son of Colonel of the Russian Army Josef Bilanishvili and his wife Ekaterine Tarchnishvili, Micheil, like his older brother Soso and his sister Nino, studied at the Tbilisi Art Academy, first with Gigo Gabashvili, then with the sculptor Iakob Nikoladze.

It is possible that he also studied with Eugene Lanceray , who frequently visited Tbilisi from 1920 to 1934.

After completing his studies, Micheil began, like his sister Nino, to teach drawing at the men's high school in Tbilisi.

Thanks to the scholarship received in 1924, the young artist came to Paris , where he joined a group of Georgian painters.

At the beginning of 1927, Bilanishvili, along with David Kakabadse and Elene Achwelidiani, took part in the 38th exhibition of the independent artists Salon des Independants . His works have received high ratings from Paris art critics.

In order to earn means for daily living, he worked in one of the Paris chemical plants. He soon fell ill with tuberculosis . His friend Lukas Khitarishvili helped him sell his paintings and got him a place in a sanatorium. There he met a Georgian nurse Baba Javrishvili, who remained loyal to him until the end.
