Michel Rey de Carvalho (born July 21, 1944 in Gerrards Cross , Buckinghamshire ) is a retired British luge driver and actor .

De Carvalho is the son of a Brazilian and an Englishwoman . He attended a school in Switzerland where he learned to ski. Thereupon he got the key role of the adopted son Toni in the film The Divided Heart by Michael Balcon . More roles followed until he withdrew from acting in 1962 after playing as an Arab orphan boy in Lawrence of Arabia . In the films he always appeared under the name Michel Ray .

De Carvalho graduated from Harvard University with a degree in economics. In addition to his work, he started a sports career. In the late 1960s he was a member of the British alpine ski team until he switched to luge. Together with Jeremy Palmer-Tompkinson he competed in doubles at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , Japan. They reached the 20th place. In 1976 they competed again in Innsbruck , Austria and achieved the same placement. De Carvalho also started in a single-seater and finished 29th.

De Carvalho worked for various financial services companies and became a multimillionaire. He is married to Charlene , the daughter of master brewer Freddy Heineken . After the death of her father in 2002, she inherited a fortune of 6 billion dollars, replacing Queen Beatrix as the richest woman in the Netherlands.
