Michelangelo Faggioli

Michelangelo Faggioli (* 1666 in Naples ; † November 23, 1733 there ) was a Neapolitan lawyer and composer.

Life

Faggioli is at the beginning of the development of the Opera buffa in Naples, which began here as an entertainment for aristocrats and lawyers. Based on a libretto by Francesco Antonio Tullio , he composed La Scilla , the first known buffo opera in the Neapolitan dialect . The work was premiered in 1706 in the Palais des Fabricio Carafa della Stadera (1638–1711) and met with great attention in Naples. In 1709 an oratorio was written, but nothing is known about it, and the cantata Didone abbandonata da Enea . Faggioli created a burlesque satirical self-portrait with the cantata Sto Paglietta presuntoso .
