Michelangelo Grancino

Michelangelo Grancino also Michel'Angelo Grancini (* around 1605 in Milan ; † April 17, 1669 there ) was an Italian organist , conductor and composer .

Life

Nothing is known about his youth and education. From 1622 he worked at various churches in his hometown. After the death of Antonio Maria Turati , he was appointed Kapellmeister at the Milan Cathedral in 1650 , his income rose from 1500 lire imperiali to 1800.

Grancino created mainly sacred music, including a number of masses , psalms and eight books "Concerti sacri". In these works he was clearly recognizable as Monteverdi's successor . There are some polyphonic madrigals in secular works . Except for a few instrumental compositions, he uses the figured bass in his work .
