Darren Clark

Darren Edward Clark (born September 6, 1965 in Sydney , Australia ) is a retired Australian athlete .

At the 1984 Olympic Games , Clark was fourth in the 400-meter run in 44.75 s. In the 4 x 400 meters relay he ran the second fastest time of all participants, but the relay was only fourth in 2: 59.70 minutes behind the USA, the British and Nigeria. For the first time, a time of less than three minutes was not enough for a medal.

At the 1986 Commonwealth Games , Darren Clark was second over 400 meters behind the Briton Roger Black . With the relay he won a second silver medal. At the World Championships in 1987 he was eliminated both over 400 meters and with the relay in the semi-finals.

In the semifinals of the 1988 Olympic Games , Clark set his personal best with 44.38 s. In the final he was fourth in 44.55 s and was still half a second behind the third of the three Americans. With the season he reached sixth place in the final.

At the 1990 Commonwealth Games , Darren Clark won his first and only major title in 44.60 seconds. The Australian relay was disqualified in advance. Darren Clark won his only medal outside the Commonwealth Games at the 1993 World Indoor Championships when he won bronze behind Butch Reynolds from the USA and the Nigerian Sunday Bada .
