Michoud is a location east of New Orleans , Louisiana .
In the 19th century , Michoud was a small rural village in Orleans Parish just outside the city limits of Gentilly Road . Before the Civil War there was a sugar plantation and a sugar factory; the old brick chimneys still exist as some sort of landmark near Gentilly Road. After the construction of the " Gulf Intracoastal Waterway " economic growth began. This effect intensified with the construction of military aircraft during World War II . Today Michoud is known for the Michoud Assembly Facility of NASA .
