The Microcharmidae are a small family of scorpions (Scorpiones) with only 15 species in two genera . This family of very small scorpions is sometimes synonymous with that of the Buthidae family .
features
Microcharmidae reach a total length of 8 to 18 mm. There are usually three pairs of side eyes (only two pairs in one case).
distribution and habitat
The species of Microcharmidae occur in Africa , especially in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Madagascar , where they inhabit the leaf litter of the tropical rainforests .
Systematics
Microcharmidae is a small family of scorpions. By 2006, six species in the genus Microcharmus had been described, Neoprotobuthus and Ankaranocharmus were considered monotypical . In 2006, eight new species were described by Lourenço, Goodman and Fisher and the former third genus Ankaranocharmus was synonymous with Microcharmus .
In 2008, Volschenk, Mattoni and Prendini proposed, they see the mesosomal anatomy of the two families as consistent, Microcharmidae as a new synonym for the family Buthidae . Lourenço does not follow this and sees “this polemical question open to discussion”.
According to "The Scorpion Files", the Microcharmidae family includes the following species:
-
