Micrografx Inc. was founded in June 1982 by J. Paul and George Grayson in Richardson , Texas and was one of the first providers of graphics software under Microsoft's Windows interface . A European subsidiary, Micrografx (Deutschland) GmbH, based in Unterschleißheim near Munich, was founded in the founding year.

history

Micrografx went public in July 1990, the shares were traded under the symbol MGXI on the NASDAQ .

In the mid-1990s, Micrografx was a leader in graphics software for Windows, with two lines of products: business products and consumer products.

On April 2, 1996, the software company Visual Software, Inc , a provider of 3D graphics programs, was taken over by a share swap .

In October 2001, Micrografx was taken over by Corel Corporation and the design division was incorporated into the Corel product portfolio. The process optimization division has been run as an independent business unit of Corel since 2003 under the name iGrafx .

Products

The product range included both well-known image processing and drawing programs such as the Micrografx Picture Publisher and Micrografx Designer as well as display tools for process modeling recognized in the market such as the Igrafx FlowCharter.

The business products included:

  • ABC FlowCharter, a complete solution for quick visualization, professional planning and quality management,
  • ABC SnapGraphics for quickly visualizing ideas and concepts,
  • the graphic all-rounder Micrografx Works
  • the painting and drawing program Micrografx Windows Draw,
  • Micrografx Designer Power Pack, a complete solution for graphics, technical illustration and image processing with Designer, Picture Publisher and Kai's Power Tools,
  • Micrografx PhotoMagic for image editing
  • the presentation and infotainment program Micrografx Charisma, as well
  • Windows OrgChart for organizational charts.

The consumer area included the painting and creative programs Crayola Amazing Art Adventure and Crayola Art Studio, for children aged 3 to 6 and 6 to 12 respectively.

  • Micrografx Picture Publisher - software for editing photos and bitmap graphics.

The last English-language full version 10.1 of the Picture Publisher was available as a free download after the marketing was discontinued via Filestube . The German-language manual for version 10 is also freely available.
