Clayton is a place in Alabama , USA and the county seat of Barbour County since 1832. The total area of ​​the place is 14.1 km². According to an estimate from 2005, Clayton had 1,402 residents. The city is the birthplace of George William Andrews , a politician who represented the state of Alabama in the US House of Representatives.

At the 2000 census, Clayton had 1,475 residents, spread across 593 households and 393 families.
