Coordinates: 32 ° 35 ′  S , 149 ° 41 ′  E The Mid-Western Regional Council is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 8,753.3 km² and has about 24,000 inhabitants.

The mid-western region is located in the center of the east of the state about 265 km northwest of the metropolis of Sydney . The area comprises 134 hamlets and villages, including Birriwa, Bylong, Goolma, Gulgong, Hargraves, Ilford, Kandos, Lue, Mudgee , Running Stream, Rylstone, Ulan, Windeyer, Wollar and part of Turill. The administrative headquarters of the council is in the city of Mudgee in the western half of the LGA, where about 11,000 residents live.

The Mid-Western Regional Council has nine members who are elected by LGA residents. The Mid-Western Region is not subdivided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
