Miesches system of units

The Miesche system of units or Mie system was an electromagnetic four- unit system developed by Gustav Mie in 1910 with the basic units volt , coulomb , centimeter and second and was originally based on the international definitions of volt, coulomb (later: ampere ), centimeter and second ("VACS -System"). The unit of power was called sthen , the unit of mass was hyle :

  • 1 Sthen (sn) = 1 VAs / cm = 1 J / cm = 10 7 dyn = 100 Newton  (N)
  • 1 hyle (hyle) = 1 s 3 VA / cm 2 = 1 s 3 W / cm 2 = 10 4 kg = 10 tons  (t)

The international electromagnetic units were implemented in practice using standard resistors and standard elements.

With the emergence of the international system of units , the Miesche system of units has lost its importance and is no longer relevant today.
