Miguel Díaz

Miguel Díaz , (* in Aragon ; † 1514 ), was a Spanish explorer and companion of Bartolomeo Columbus on Christopher Columbus ' second voyage of discovery .

In 1495 Diaz was commissioned to investigate the wealth of gold in Hispaniola , and in search of gold on the Rio Haina , he initiated the founding of the city of Santo Domingo . By Bartholomew Columbus , he was appointed manager of Hispaniola appointed. When he refused, Francisco de Bobadilla , who the governor of Hispaniola was appointed to hand over in 1500 the city, he therefore fell into disfavor . Diaz was reappointed lieutenant of the governor of Puerto Rico Juan Ponce de León in 1509 , but soon afterwards was deported to Spain, where he died in 1514 , about to return to the West Indies .
