Gerald R. "Jerry" Molen (born January 6, 1935 in Great Falls , Montana ) is an American film producer and film actor .

Short biography

Molen is a longtime partner of Steven Spielberg , who started working in film in the 1970s as a transportation coordinator. In the 1980s, was Molen manager among others, The Postman Always Rings Twice , Tootsie and The Color Purple . The latter film was Molen's first collaboration with Spielberg. Molen made his producer debut in 1991 in Hook . In the years to come he co-produced many other Spielberg films, including Jurassic Park , Schindler's List , Forgotten World: Jurassic Park and Minority Report .

He also appeared in a number of Spielberg films in small supporting roles, including Jurassic Park , Amistad and most recently Catch Me If You Can . Here, however, he mostly used the name Jerry Molen . Other films in which Molen was mostly involved as executive producer , however, were Rain Man , Days of Thunder and Twister .

Molen produced the highly criticized 2016 documentaries : Obama's America (2012), America: Imagine the World Without Her (2014), Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party (2016) and Death of a Nation: Can We Save America a Second Time? (2018) by Republican and conspiracy theorist Dinesh D'Souza . For Hillary's America , Molen received the Golden Raspberry for Worst Film in 2017 .

Film awards

In addition to a BAFTA Award and a Laurel Award , both of which he received in 1994, he and Steven Spielberg and Branko Lustig won an Oscar for Schindler's List at the 1994 Academy Awards .

Molen also received two Directors Guild of America Awards for Rain Man and The Color Purple .
