Miguel Diaz (boxing coach)

Miguel Diaz (* 1938 in Argentina ) is a retired Argentine boxer , boxing coach, assistant trainer and cutman .

Diaz as a boxer

Diaz started boxing at the age of 8. As an amateur, he completed a total of 27 fights.

With the professionals he competed in the welterweight division . He had a very short professional career as a boxer. His record was 9 fights, 1 draw, 4 wins and 4 losses.

Diaz as a trainer

Diaz moved to Los Angeles , California and started the Miguel Diaz boxing gym . One of his first world champions was his compatriot Pedro Rubén Décima .

Under Diaz's direction Erik Morales defeated Daniel Zaragoza in super bantamweight on September 6, 1997 and thus took the WBC world title from him.

He trained Fernando Vargas and founded his second boxing gym ( Miguel Diaz boxing gym ) in Las Vegas , Nevada .

In 1999 Diaz was named " World Coach of the Year " by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) . He was also inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame on November 15, 2008 .

Diaz as assistant coach and cutman

As an assistant coach and cutman, Diaz worked with Diego Corrales and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
