Miguel Sousa Tavares

Miguel Andresen de Sousa Tavares (born June 25, 1952 in Porto ) is a Portuguese writer and journalist .

Career

Miguel Sousa Tavares is the son of the poet Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen and the lawyer and politician Francisco Sousa Tavares. He studied law himself and then pursued a career as a journalist and essayist. In 2003 he made his debut as a novelist with “Am Äquator”. The book, which focuses on the Portuguese governor of São Tomé and Príncipe , was a bestseller and sold over 220,000 copies.

In the Público Sousa Tavares had a weekly column with a political commentary, which he now continues for the weekly Expresso . He also writes articles for the sports newspaper A Bola . He is known for his passion for football and his support for the FC Porto club .
