Mihail Petruševski

Mihail D. Petruševski , Macedonian: Михаил Д. Петрушевски , the first name also: Mihailo or Mihajlo , Macedonian: Михаило or Михајло (* July 2, 1911 in Bitola , then Ottoman Empire ; † February 27, 1990 in Skopje , Macedonia ) was a Yugoslavian classical philologist and Mycenaeologist .

Petruševski was the founder of the Philosophical Faculty and the Department of Classical Studies at the University of Skopje . 1956/57 to 1957/58 he was rector of the university. In 1967 he was elected a member of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts .

He published over 200 writings, including on Mycenaean Greek . His translation of Homer's Iliad and his adaptation of the Skanderbeg by Grigor Parlichev had a particular influence on Macedonian culture. He was also a member of the first committee to standardize the Macedonian alphabet .
