Mihkel Kaevats

Mihkel Kaevats (born May 29, 1983 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian poet, translator and essayist.

life and work

Mihkel Kaevats was born the son of the Estonian literary scholar Mall Jõgi (* 1947) and the philosopher Ülo Kaevats (1947-2015).

From 2002 to 2007 he studied semiotics and cultural studies at the University of Tartu . From 2009 to 2012 he continued his studies in Tallinn. Study visits took him to Bari (2004/2005), Voronezh (2006) and Rome (2011). He completed his studies with a thesis on Giovanni Papini .

In 2003 he made his debut as a writer with the poetry book Ederlezi . Then three more volumes of poetry appeared. From his fourth volume of poetry, Ungari kirsid ja teisi luuletusi , two poems have been published in German so far (in: die horen 255 (2014)).

Kaevats has been a member of the Estonian Writers' Union ( Eesti Kirjanike Liit ) since 2007 .

He also works as a translator. 2010 his translation of Estonian appeared Hunter S. Thompson's key novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas .
