Mijeegombyn Enchbold ( Mongolian Миеэгомбын Энхболд ; * July 19, 1964 ) was the Prime Minister of Mongolia from January 25, 2006 to November 22, 2007 . Enchbold was also the general secretary of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party (MRVP). Prior to his appointment, he was the mayor of Ulaanbaatar .

Life

Early years

Enchbold is married and has two children. From 1983 he studied planned economy at the National University of Mongolia and graduated there in 1987.

From 1987 to 1998, he worked as an economist at the Public Services Bureau of the Executive Board of the Council of People's Commissars of Ulaanbaatar. Then he moved to the Department of Planned Economy Mechanisms at the Ministry of Public Services . In 1991 he returned to the city's public services bureau as director .

Urban politics

In 1990, when the Politburo resigned and democracy was established in Mongolia, Enchbold joined the MRVP. From 1992 to 1996 he worked as the deputy administrator of the Chingeltei district in Ulaanbaatar, and from 1996 to 1997 as chairman of the presidium of the assembly of representatives of the same district. From 1997 to 2005 he was chairman of the MRVP Capital Committee. From 1999 to 2006 he was mayor of the capital.

National politics

In 1995, Enchbold was elected to parliament and was promoted to general secretary of the MRVP. After the dissolution of the government of Tsachiagiin Elbegdorsch in early 2006, the MRVP proposed Enchbold as the new prime minister. Parliament upheld it on January 25, 2006 with 55 votes out of 66.

At the 2007 party congress, he was voted out of office as chairman by 377 to 229 votes in favor of Sandschaagiin Bajar . The same party congress voted to propose Bajar as the next prime minister. The parliament, dominated by the MRVP, appointed Bajar Prime Minister on November 22, 2007 with 67 votes to two (87.1%). As one of his first official acts, Bajar appointed Enchbold again as his deputy.

After his party's victory in the 2016 parliamentary elections, Enchbold became chairman of the Great State of Chural .
