Mika Kohonen

Mika Kohonen (born May 10, 1977 in Jyväskylä ) is a Finnish floorball player and three-time world champion with the Finnish national team (as of 2016). He plays in the Swedish Svenska Superligan at Storvreta IBK . Kohonen was named World Floorball Player of the Year in 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 by the Swedish magazine Innebandymagazinet .

Career

Kohonen started playing floorball in his hometown Jyväskylä at Klub Happee . In the 1995/96 season he made his debut for the first Happee team. By 2000 he played 114 games for Happee and was able to achieve 198 points scorer. For the 2000/01 season he moved to Sweden for the first division club Balrog IK . Up until 2004, he achieved 329 points in 120 games. In his first season he was the best scorer in the league with 107 points. For the 2004/05 season Kohonen returned to his home club Happee for a year before moving back to Sweden. Kohonen has been hunting for points for Storvreta IBK since 2005/06.

Kohonen has played for the Finnish national team since 1997. In the World Cup tournaments , which are held every two years , Kohonen has so far won three gold, five silver and two bronze medals. He now plays the role of game director on the Finnish team. Around two thirds of his points are assists, one third goals.
