Svenska Superligan is the top division in Swedish floorball for men and women. For the 2008/2009 season, the number of teams has increased from 12 to 14.

history

The Svenska Superligan was founded in 1995 under the name Elitserien, which replaced Division 1 as the top division in Sweden. Up to and including the 1998/99 season, the league was divided into a north and a south group, before a single-track top division emerged in 1999/2000. For the 2007/08 season the league was renamed Svenska Superligan and the following year it was decided to increase from 12 to 14 teams.

mode

The season starts with the normal league, where all teams compete against each other twice. A conference system has been in place since the 2016/17 season , whereby the northernmost and southernmost seven teams still play against each other before the second leg. Thus 32 games are played per season. Then the eight best teams in the league play the play-offs (best-of-5). Only the final is a single play-off that will be played in the Stockholm Globe Arena . In addition to the championship, a cup, the league cup, is also played.

Premier Floorball League

The Premier Floorball League (PFL) is a newly planned Swedish league that is scheduled to start operations in September 2019. The origin of this planned competition league is a conflict between the Swedish Federation (SIBF) and the FSSL, a community that represents the interests of the clubs. The latter demands that the marketing rights for the SSL be transferred to an independent organization in order to make it more attractive. However, the Swedish Association refused.

The future and the impact of this league on international floorball are still uncertain. It is also assumed, for example, that players who play in the PFL will be excluded from a nomination for the national team.
