The Jönköpings IK is a Swedish sports club based in Jönköping . Both the men's and women's teams will play again in the Svenska Superligan , the highest Swedish league , in 2017/18 .

history

founding

The association was founded on March 9, 1985. It was founded from the merger of the two associations SMU Immanuelskyrkan and Munksjöskolan.

Men's

The club was able to qualify three times for the final of the Swedish Super League, but could not win the Swedish championship in any of the participation. In 2009, the men's team of the JIK rose to Division 1 Södra. After two years in the second highest league, the men were promoted to the Svenska Superliga in spring 2011. The men were relegated from the Superligan in 2014 with just one win and nine points.

After the successful 2016/17 season, the men of Jönköpings IK were promoted back to the Svenska Superligan.

Ladies

In 2012, the women's team also achieved promotion to the SSL. Already in the first season the women had to assert themselves in the relegation playoff, which they successfully managed. After the 2015/16 season, the women were relegated to Allsvenskan Södra after four years in the SSL. Just a year later, like the men, they were promoted to the SSL again.

Stadion

The first IK teams play in the Idrottshus in Jönköping. The hall has a capacity of 1500 people.
