Mika Taanila
Mika Taanila (born May 22, 1965 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish documentary and experimental filmmaker.
life and work
Mika Taanila studied from 1989 to 1992 at the TV and Film Department of the Polytechnic Institute in Lahti . In 1994 he founded the Helsinki Film Coop . Taanila has been Program Director for the Avanto Helsinki Media Art Festival since 2000 . He is a member of the film collective Kinotar . Mika Taanila is a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki.
“In more than two decades, he has created works on film and video - short and long, narrative and abstract - that cast a curious look at advancing technological developments, futuristic visions of today's science and the intersection between art and science. In the mixture of historical material and experimental approaches, his works, whether they deal with architecture, design or electronic music, keep the limbo between nostalgia and belief in progress and at the same time focus on the failure already implied in utopia. "
Since 1989 he has made more than 20 short and documentary films as a director. He was often responsible for the film editing and the script.
