Mike Hennessey

Mike Hennessey (born February 25, 1928 in London - † August 16, 2017 in Durchhausen ) was a British music journalist who also emerged as a jazz pianist .

Hennessey, who came from a musical family, learned the piano at the age of six. After his military service he worked as a journalist. He has written for many jazz magazines in Europe and North America and for many years was the international editor of the US trade magazine Billboard , for which he served as the international publisher until 1994. He developed into one of the most experienced experts on international copyright law and was an advocate for strengthening the rights of music creatives. He was also a co-founder of international industry magazines such as "Music Week" and "music & media". He has also written books on the music business and biographies of jazz musicians. As a pianist, he was part of Chas Burchell's band, with whom he recorded two albums. He also brought the Paris Reunion Band to Nat Adderley together and toured with Adderley, Billy Mitchell , Arthur Blythe , Benny Golson , Keter Betts and Jimmy Cobb and Jan Harrington. He also accompanied Buddy DeFranco , Nathan Davis , Johnny Griffin , Dusko Goykovich and Ronnie Scott as pianist .

Since 1998 he lived in Durchhausen; his life partner was the German concert organizer Gaby Kleinschmidt.
