René Duprat
René "Didi" Duprat (born October 12, 1926 in Paris ; † August 8, 1996 ) was a French guitarist of gypsy jazz and musette .
Live and act
Duprat learned mandolin and banjo as a child before the guitar became his main instrument under the influence of Django Reinhardt's music. Although not a manouche , he worked as a guitarist in the musette and swing scene from the 1930s and 1940s. At the age of 16 he played in the Michel Warlop orchestra . In 1943 he accompanied Gus Viseur and Tony Muréna , with whom the first recordings were made. After the war he also took on Jo Privat . He was a member of the Louis Ferrari orchestra until 1952 . In 1958 he replaced Henri Crolla as a tour companion for the singer Yves Montand , which made him known nationwide. As a result, he also worked with artists such as Dalida , Juliette Gréco and Marlene Dietrich until the mid-1970s . Didi Duprat also played with the brothers Baro and Matelo Ferret . In the early 1990s, the last recordings were made with Jo Rossi , Marc Perrone , Louis Corchia , Marcel Azzola , Armand Lassagne and Francis Varis before he fell ill and had to end his career.
