Mike Storey, Baron Storey , CBE (born May 25, 1949 ) is a British Liberal Democratic politician.

Career in Liverpool local politics

He was first elected to the City Council of Liverpool in 1973 for the Liberal Democrats . In 1998 his party won a majority in Liverpool City Council and Storey became Leader of Liverpool City Council. From 2004 to 2011 he was a city council member for the Wavertree district of Liverpool.

One of his goals was to restore the city's reputation. He cut local taxes, improved services, tried to create jobs and attract investors, and cut the city's workforce by 5,000. He was instrumental in Liverpool's successful bid as European Capital of Culture in 2008.

He resigned from his post as city council chairman on November 25, 2005 after it was revealed that he had violated the Code of Conduct.

From 2009 to 2010 he was Lord Mayor of Liverpool.

In 2011 he lost his seat on the city council to the 18-year-old Labor candidate Jake Morrison.

Awards

Storey was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1992 for his political activities and in 2002 the Commander of the British Empire . He is also a teacher and is currently the principal of a school in Halewood .

House of Lords

On February 2, 2011, as Baron Storey , of Childwall in the City of Liverpool, he was raised to life peer and moved into the House of Lords for the Liberal Democrats .
