In 1996 he was called to the first team. Due to his long-standing loyalty to the club, he is also the team captain and role model with the fans. Since 2001 he has always had a regular place in the "Txurri Urdin" with the exception of the 2005/06 season, when he was repeatedly thrown back from injuries. He also reached the runner-up championship with his team in 2002/03 to play in the Champions League the following year . He ended his career with the 2011/2012 season.

descent

The 2006/07 relegation did nothing to change his loyalty to Real Sociedad. So he stayed there to lead the club back to the first division, which also succeeded with reaching the championship in the Segunda División 2009/10 .
