Mikveh (Hainsfarth)
The mikveh in Hainsfarth , a community in the Swabian district of Donau-Ries , was discovered in 2015 during renovation work in front of the Hainsfarther synagogue .
description
The mikveh was archaeologically examined and documented by the State Office for Monument Preservation in 2016 . The rectangular plunge pool with the external dimensions of 4.16 × 1.96 meters was still up to one meter deep in the ground. It consisted of large, dry-laid limestone blocks and could be entered from the south via a staircase. The upper end of the basin and all traces of the associated building could no longer be found.
It is probably an older predecessor of an already known mikvah from 1829 in the area of today's Kohlgasse 7. The excavated remains of the mikveh on the synagogue forecourt probably date from the 17th century.
reconstruction
The original components were left where they were found and filled with sterile material so that they are permanently protected from damage. A reconstruction on a 1: 1 scale is on the Mikveh square. A modern stair element made of metal represents the no longer completely preserved access staircase. Two information boards explain the mikveh in text and pictures.
