The synagogue in Hainsfarth , a community in the Swabian district of Donau-Ries , was built in 1860 and is located at Jurastraße 10.

history

In 1722 the first synagogue was built in Judengasse (today Jurastraße) . After this became dilapidated , a new building was planned from 1857 for 102 women and 108 men. Matthias Seemüller from Augsburg designed the plans that focus on the Heidenheimer synagogue of Eduard Bürklein oriented. The construction work was carried out by master bricklayer Johann Michael Mayer from Ostheim. The synagogue was inaugurated on August 24, 1860.

National Socialist Persecution

During the Second World War the synagogue was used as a warehouse for the Heuberg airfield . a. as a refrigerator, workshop and gym.

The 12 m wide and 19.65 m long building on a rectangular floor plan has a flat gable roof . The roof ridge of the two-storey building runs in an east-west direction. The double portal , separate entrances for men and women, is located on the western corner of the north side. A circumferential cornice separates the storeys, corner pilasters and verge profiles frame the structure. The Moorish style elements are particularly evident on the windows with horseshoe arches and the wall painting .

Current condition

The community of Hainsfarth, which bought the building in 1978, initially set up the building yard in the former synagogue . The synagogue was restored from 1983 and opened on April 28, 1996 as a meeting place and space for cultural events.
