Milan Škobalj (born July 9,  1963 ) is a Serbian basketball coach .

career

As a player, Škobalj was in the ranks of the clubs KK Čukarički, KK Vojvoda Stepa, KK Železničar and FMP Železnik. In 1995 he began his coaching career in the youth field at Železnik before he became assistant coach of the professional team. He stayed in office until 2001 when he also moved to Red Star Belgrade as an assistant coach . In addition to his duties in the club, he was the assistant coach of the then joint national team of Serbia and Montenegro at the 2006 World Cup. In April 2008, after the resignation of Stevan Karadžić, he took over the position of head coach at Red Star and remained in this position until the end of the 2007/08 season. His successor was Svetislav Pešić .

In the 2008/09 season, Škobalj worked as an assistant coach at the Ukrainian capital club BC Kiev , and in August 2009 he took over the position of head coach at the Danish first division club Hørsholm 79ers . In his first season in Hørsholm, he led the team to third place in the final score of the Danish championship and was then selected by the basketball service eurobasket.com as the “coach of the year” in the Danish league. After the end of the 2011/12 season, his tenure with the Danish club ended.

In 2012/13 he worked as head coach of the Moroccan club Sport Plazza Casablanca, in 2013/14 he coached Amal Essaouira (also in Morocco). He returned to Scandinavia and was coach of the Swedish second division club IK Eos Lund in the 2015/16 season. In June 2016 he was introduced as the new head coach of the Danish first division club Team FOG Næstved . In the 2016/17 season, under Škobalj's leadership, Næstved won the Danish Cup and thus the first title in the club's history, but the declared goal of a medal was not achieved in the league in both years of his tenure.

In May 2018 Škobalj was as the new head coach of the straight in the 2. Bundesliga ProA  ascended Rostock Seawolves presented. Rostock's sporting director Jens Hakanowitz , who had played under the Serb at the Hørsholm 79ers, was responsible for his commitment . He led the Mecklenburgers in the 2018/19 season as a league newcomer to the ProA championship round, where they lost to the future champions Hamburg. At the beginning of January 2020, Škobalj was dismissed in Rostock as a result of an 82:72 home win against Schwenningen, because the sports management of the Rostock team was concerned about the "current situation" and was not satisfactory. Under the Serbian, the Mecklenburgers had won seven games and lost ten in the season so far. Dirk Bauermann was his successor in Rostock .

family

Škobalj is the father of basketball player Filip Škobalj , who was part of the team in Rostock under him.
