Hørsholm 79ers

The Hørsholm 79ers are a basketball team from the Danish town of Hørsholm .

history

The Hørsholm Basketball Club (Hørsholm BBK) was founded in 1979, the forerunner being a basketball working group at the local school Hørsholm Skole, which had existed since 1978.

Between 1988 and 1997 the Hørsholmer men's team won the Danish championship twice, came second three times and third twice. The Hørsholmer women dominated the Danish women's league in the second half of the 2000s and were Danish champions six times between 2004 and 2010.

In September 2014 the club changed its name to "Hørsholm 79ers Basketball". Due to economic difficulties, the men's team was withdrawn from the Danish top division (basket league) in June 2018 after an impending bankruptcy was averted in February 2018. After the withdrawal, the team played in the 1st Division Herrer.

The club is known for its good youth work: by 2017, youth teams from Hørsholm had won 55 Danish championship titles, more than any other club in the country.

With 39 successes, the club is the record winner at the Swedish tournament Lundaspelen (as of January 2019).
