Jonathan Gilling (born June 29, 1991 in Vaduz ) is a Danish basketball player .

career

Gilling, whose three sisters Sofie, Mathilde and Caroline also played basketball at the performance level and all three did so temporarily at universities in the United States , moved to Arizona State University in 2011 . The Zealand-born winger began his career at Hørsholm Basketball Klub, from 2009 to 2011 he played for Hørsholm's men's team in the Danish first division and, especially in the 2010/11 season, attracted attention with 15.2 points per game.

For Arizona State University he played 132 games, which was the best in the history of the university team. With 258 three-point throws hit, Gilling was fifth in the team's all-time record list when he returned to Europe in 2015. His best season in the NCAA was 2012/13, when he averaged 9.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

Gilling was initially under contract with the Cypriot club AEK Larnaka in the 2015/16 season, from January 2016 he played again for Hørsholm in the Danish league until the end of the season and scored 12.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. During the summer break of 2016, the Dane moved to the Spanish second division club CB Breogán . In 39 season appearances, he subsequently posted 8.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per encounter. In the run-up to the 2017/18 season, Gilling accepted an offer from another club in the Spanish second division, CB Coruña, and scored 8.5 points per game. In August 2018 he was signed by Club Melilla Baloncesto and thus remained in the league. An average of 6.8 points were noted for the Dane in the 2018/19 season in the colors of Melilla. During the summer break of 2019 he moved to another second division club in Spain, CB Almansa.

National team

Gilling took part in the U18 and U20 teams of Denmark in the B European Championships, and in 2015 he was appointed to the men's national team in his home country for the first time.
