The team FOG Næstved is a basketball team from Næstved in Denmark . FOG Næstved is the professional team of the Næstved Idræts Forening (IF) association, which, similar to Næstved BK , was separated from the association in 2002 and made independent.
history
In 2002, Andreas Larsen, chairman of the basketball department founded in Næstved IF in 1962, signed a sponsorship deal with the retail chain FOG SuperBest. Similar to the footballers in Næstved BK six years earlier , the men's team, which had been swinging between the first and sometimes third division since the 1970s, was released from the club and made independent as the FOG Næstved team . Three years later, in 2005, they "returned" to the top Danish basketball division . After moving into the cup final as well as eighth place in 2007 and the first play-off participation for the Danish championship since promotion, in the following season 2007/08 they put Brandon Thomas , later especially professional in Germany at FC Bayern Munich and the Artland Dragons , the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the main round season. Together with the internationally experienced Thomas Soltau , however, it was only enough for the seventh main round place in that season. Then Geof Kotila came for the next five years as coach of the Bakken Bears and the team reached the play-off semifinals for the first time and failed in the "small final" for the bronze medal of the championship just because of a buzzer beaters . Two years later, as third in the main round, you also failed in the small final by winning the bronze medal, which you could finally secure a year later in 2012.
After another third place in 2015, the team moved from the Næstved Hallen to the newly built Næstved Arena . After the average of 880 spectators at the old place of work had already been above the league average, the new venue reached an average of 1,269 spectators per game, overtaking the record champion Bakken Bears from Aarhus as the basketball league's audience. In the play-off semifinals, however, they remained without a win against the record champions, but could defend the bronze medal against the Hørsholm 79ers in the small final . From the 79ers then coach Milan Škobalj returned to Næstved, who had already trained the team at the beginning of their independence in 2002.
