Thomas Soltau (born March 11, 1982 in Gundsø ) is a former Danish national basketball player .

Career

societies

Soltau played in the youth of the Roskilde Basketball Club, and twice in the summer of 2000 for the offspring of FC Barcelona . That same year, he was one of only three Europeans called to join the Prepstars Canada's International World All Star Team . With the Danish club Herlev / BMS he was able to win five titles in 2001, including the Danish Championship and the Danish Cup. After numerous offers from various US universities, he decided on Northwestern University and played only eight games for the college team in the NCAA before returning to Europe in early 2003.

In January 2003 he was tested by the Italian first division club Scavolini Pesaro , but then moved to Benetton Treviso in February . With Treviso he was Italian champion in 2003 and reached the final of the ULEB Euroleague , which was lost to FC Barcelona .

After a brief stint at SISU Hellerup Copenhagen , he moved to the Bayer Giants Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga and in 2005 in the 2nd Bundesliga at BSG Grevenbroich . In December 2005 he signed a contract with the Italian second division club CoopSette Rimini , which was dissolved the next month due to a knee injury, whereupon he moved to ETB SW Essen in February 2006 and thus returned to the 2nd Bundesliga.

In 2006 he went to the Icelandic city ​​of Keflavík and played with the club in the FIBA EuroCup Challenge . In addition, the Powerade Cup could be won.

National team

In 1998 Soltau took part in the Nordic Cup with the U-17 national team, and in 1999 it was used in four games at the European Youth Olympic Festival . In total, he played 46 games for Danish national youth teams (U-17, U-18, U-20). For Denmark he played again in 2006 at the Nordic Cup and in 2007 at the Vivatel Cup in Sofia .
