features

The fish are just over 16 centimeters long. Her body is white and is patterned by 21 wide, red-brown rings. Like all flag- tail pipefish , they have a fan-shaped caudal fin. The snout is very long and pipette-like . It differs from the very similar banded pipefish ( Dunckerocampus dactyliophorus ) by the wider rings and the pattern on the caudal fin . The tail fin of the broadband pipefish has a red-brown center, the upper and lower edges are white, the rear black.

Like all pipefish, they are oviparous , the eggs are taken over by the female from the male after they are laid in order to carry them on the spongy underside of the tail until the larvae hatch.
