Broadband pipefish ( Dunckerocampus boylei )
The flag- tail pipefish (Doryrhamphinae) have as a characteristic of their subfamily a more or less large, banded or striped tail fin, often drawn with bright, striking colors. The pattern is typical for the respective species. Flag-tail pipefish are 5.5 to 20 cm long.
Most species live in the sea, in the tropical area of the Indo-Pacific , only in the waters of southern Australia and Japan there are also occurrences in temperate areas. Doryichthys species are also found in coastal fresh waters. Flag-tailed pipefish mostly live in pairs in caves, under reef overhangs and in the protection of coral blocks, feed on small crustaceans and also clean other fish.
